What you get in a report

A match report on this desk has five parts: the result and the margin, the moment that defined the match, the tactical read, the player notes, and the fantasy-cricket verdict. Each part is short, named and dated — so the report can be cited as a record rather than re-read as a story.

Where the captain pick was wrong, the report says so. Where a tactical shift (a bowling change, an Impact Player swap, a powerplay re-shuffle) was decisive, the report explains why. We treat every report as evidence the desk will need to defend a previous call.

Archive

The archive goes back to the start of the 2024 season. Use the date filter on the captain picks page to find a specific match or venue. Each row links to the post-match report that justified the call.

How we rate matches

Each match gets a 5-star rating based on the closeness of the finish, the quality of individual performance, the impact of the tactical shifts, the venue behaviour, and the resulting change in the league context. Five stars go to the most-decisive, most-tactical matches of the season. Three stars go to one-sided matches that didn't quite deserve a spotlight. One star is reserved for wash-outs and rain-affected games.

FAQs

How long after a match does the report land?

The first cut of the report appears within an hour of the match ending. Tactical analysis and the fantasy verdict land in the second pass within 24 hours.

Do I have to read the report to follow the season?

No — the live scores page and the points table will give you everything factual. The reports add tactical context for readers who want to understand why a match went a particular way.

Where do the player notes come from?

From the official broadcaster's post-match coverage, the league's own pitch notes, and the desk's own reading of the ball-by-ball data.

What happens to a report when corrections land?

We add a corrections section at the top of the report, dated and named, and never quietly rewrite the text.

Does the desk publish a captain pick verdict for every match?

Yes. Where the captain pick was wrong, the verdict explains what we missed; where it was right, the verdict cites the relevant figures.

Does the report also include a verdict on the Fantasy cricket side?

Yes. The Fantasy desk verdict appears as the second-to-last section of every report.
