IPL 2026 points table — recalculated after every ball
Live standings as the league moves through match 28 of 74. NRR is calculated on official scorecards; form reflects the last five matches; the playoff race line follows the cut-off that historically qualifies.
The 2026 table

The table below is the standing after every match played so far. NRR is calculated using the official league feed; we never estimate it. If a number looks wrong to you, the corrections page explains why and updates the row.

Playoff race explained
In an average IPL season, a tally of fourteen points has qualified comfortably and twelve points has occasionally fallen short. The pattern shifts each year because NRR swings on individual high-scoring games. If the leaderboard holds, Mumbai would qualify comfortably by match 25; the bottom four would effectively be out by then.
For a team chasing a top-two finish, the path is simpler — win more than half of the remaining games, keep NRR positive, and stay clear of the bottom three. The chair-of-the-table race matters because the top two get a second life in the playoffs.
Historically, a sixteenth-point team has only missed a playoff spot once in the last seven seasons; the cut-off has been pretty stable at fourteen. That said, the 2025 season saw a side qualify with twelve points because the chasing pack collapsed mid-season, and the 2026 NRR profile is already much more spread than usual.
How NRR works
Net Run Rate is calculated as the average runs scored per over minus the average runs conceded per over across the season. A team that wins by 90 runs and loses by 1 ball remaining will end up with a positive NRR even after the loss. The reverse is true of a team that wins a low-scoring thriller and loses a high-scoring blowout.
NRR only updates after completed matches; mid-innings data does not count. It is calculated to three decimal places for the public table, with more decimals maintained internally for verification.
For teams who bowl first, the run-rate conceded figure is sometimes the deciding factor. A side that bowls out the opposition for 120 in 18 overs and then scores 124 for 4 in 17 overs has conceded 6.67 per over and scored 7.29 per over, giving an NRR of +0.62 from that match alone. Stack up enough of these and the table moves noticeably.
Tiebreakers, in order
If two teams finish on the same points, NRR is the first tiebreaker. If NRR is also level, the head-to-head record decides (most wins, or most points head-to-head). If still level, lots are drawn by the league. In practice, the head-to-head tiebreaker never fires because NRR always separates tied teams.
Last-5 form context
Form means the last five matches; the column is a read-out of wins and losses in that window in the order they happened. A W W L W W means two wins, then a loss, then three straight wins. Form should not be confused with momentum — a team on three straight wins can fall off quickly if the schedule turns against them in the next two fixtures.
Look at form plus the upcoming fixtures. A 4-in-5 side meeting the bottom of the table is closer to a 6-in-7; a 3-in-5 side meeting a top-order team with a returning fast bowler might be 3-in-7. Form plus fixtures is a much more useful predictor than form alone.
FAQs
When does the points table update?
Within a few minutes of a match ending. We do not update NRR mid-innings because it does not count until the match is concluded.
What NRR is the playoff cut-off?
Typically a positive NRR or even a slightly negative NRR will qualify if your points tally is 14+. The exact threshold shifts each year and is calculated from the tenth-qualifying team's eventual NRR.
Why does NRR matter at all?
NRR is the official tiebreaker, but it also reflects how a team is winning. A side that is winning big and losing small has a much better profile than a side scraping one-run victories. The IPL playoff structure rewards that profile with two lives in the knockout.
Where do you source the NRR figures?
From the official league scorecards. Where the scorecard has been revised (e.g. a wicket overturned), we update the figure but flag it in the corrections log.
Does rain-affected matches shift the NRR significantly?
Yes. A DLS method victory depends on the par score at the rain break, not the chasing total. A side that wins under DLS by 4 wickets with 2.2 overs unused has conceded far fewer runs than a side that wins a full 20-over match, so the NRR swings in their favour.
